Carica Papaya

Occurrence

Originates from Central America, now found throughout Tropical America.


Nutritional Uses

Contains vitamin A, B, C , K, folate, magnesium, copper, fiber, pantothenic acid and antioxidants.


Medicinal Uses

Both leaves and fruit are used medicinally.

Papaya has a range of different health benefits, it boosts immunity, reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer, aids in wound healing and digestion. Improves blood pressure and lowers blood glucose.

The leaves are applied in a concoction for treating the symptoms of dengue, increasing the blood platelet levels that are lowered when this sickness happens.

The leaves also improve hair scalp health and hair growth, as well as to treat menstrual colics . The fruit is used in traditional medicine to improve sugar levels for patients with diabetes, as well as supports digestive functions. The fruit improves skin when consumed regularly. In moderation, the seeds are said to be anti-parasitic.


Toxicity

People with allergic reactions to latex may have allergic reactions to Papaya.


Contraindications

Pregnant women are advised to stay away from Papaya since it can cause uterine contractions.
