Historical Background

Before the creation of the drug derived from this plant, now called cocaine, coca was already and is still considered a very sacred plant to native nations all through South America, especially in the Andean subregion. Indigenous tribes in these areas believe the plant has been profaned to cause harm to others when its chemicals were extracted.
